Covered with Heart: A Day in the Life of a Holistic Insurance Broker

When most people hear the word insurance, they think of paperwork, policies, and premiums. But for me, it’s never just been about coverage—it’s about care. As a holistic insurance broker, my days are filled with more than spreadsheets and phone calls; they’re shaped by conversations, stories, and a mission to help people feel safe, seen, and supported during life’s most uncertain seasons.

7:30 AM – Morning Grounding

I wake up before my son, Rumi, and give myself 15 quiet minutes to breathe. Sometimes it’s journaling. Sometimes it’s stretching in silence. Sometimes it’s just sipping coffee and watching the sun rise. This small ritual anchors me before the whirlwind begins. I remind myself of one question:
Who can I help today?

8:15 AM – Mom Mode Activated

Breakfast, a quick cartoon debate, a missing shoe, a giggle. By 8:45 AM, we’re out the door and I’m transitioning from mother to broker—though those roles are always intertwined. Being a parent has made me more empathetic and sharp. I know what it’s like to worry about bills, benefits, and bedtime all at once.

9:30 AM – First Appointment of the Day

My first client is newly self-employed and overwhelmed with health insurance options. We talk through marketplace plans, subsidies, and income projections—but also about her dreams, her fears, and how this step is part of reclaiming her life. I tell her, “Coverage should never feel like a trap. It should feel like a tool.”

That’s the heart of what I do—translating complex systems into simple choices so people can breathe easier.

11:00 AM – Community Check-In

I swing by the Port Orange Adult Activity Center to confirm details for our upcoming event—a free jam session and produce giveaway. We’re blending health education with healing spaces, because I believe community wellness is preventive care. I hang a flyer, say hi to Miss Janice, and leave with a smile and two homemade bookmarks from a volunteer.

12:30 PM – Lunch with Purpose

While munching a salad in the car, I record a quick Instagram video about scams targeting seniors and how to protect loved ones. I share stories because stories stick. My goal is always education with empathy. I schedule the post and reply to a comment from a grateful daughter:

“Thank you for explaining this so clearly. My dad was almost tricked last month.”

This is why I show up.

2:00 PM – Enrollment Help for a Medicare Beneficiary

This appointment is in person. I walk the client through her plan options and help her choose one that keeps her trusted doctor, covers her medications, and fits her fixed income. She tears up and says, “No one’s ever explained it to me like this. I thought I was just too old to understand.”

She’s not. None of us are.

4:30 PM – Back-End Hustle

Emails, applications, compliance checks, CRM updates. This part is not glamorous, but it’s the skeleton that holds everything up. I chase down a prior authorization for a client’s insulin, review follow-up notes, and prepare packets for an upcoming Medicare 101 workshop.

I remind myself: Behind every file is a family.

6:00 PM – Mom Mode, Again

Dinner, stories, bath time, and snuggles. Rumi asks if I helped anyone today. I say, “Yes, a few people.” He nods and says, “Good. That’s what your job is.” He’s right.

8:00 PM – Reflections & Dreams

Before bed, I light a candle and journal. I review the day not just for what I accomplished, but how I made people feel. My work isn’t just transactional—it’s transformational.

Because when you’re covered by heart, you’re not alone.
